Former Marketo leader to focus on elevating brand and expanding marketing capabilities
PALO ALTO, Calif. – September 27, 2017 – Sapphire Ventures, a leading venture capital firm with $2.4 billion under management that invests in emerging growth-stage companies and early-stage venture funds, today announced that it has hired Stefanie Gordish as vice president of marketing. Stefanie will lead the firm’s marketing strategy, including brand, communications, events, messaging and thought leadership.
Stefanie brings extensive marketing communications experience to Sapphire. Most recently, she led communications at Marketo, a marketing technology provider, where she saw the company through its take-private transaction and a corporate repositioning from a marketing automation application to an engagement platform. Prior to Marketo, Stefanie spent more than a decade at global PR agencies Weber Shandwick and Edelman, where she led corporate communications programs for brands big and small across a wide range of industries. She also served as Weber Shandwick’s Bay Area crisis communications lead.
“Stefanie came to us with the right combination of brand, marketing and communications experience to help take the Sapphire brand to the next level,” said Nino Marakovic, CEO and managing director at Sapphire Ventures. “Our firm has evolved substantially over the years and will continue to do so. It’s critical to have a strong marketing partner through that journey, and we’re all excited to work with Stefanie.”
“Sapphire is a top-tier venture firm and has such a unique position in the venture ecosystem as both a GP and an LP. The names on its track record are incredible. As a marketer, I’m excited about the opportunity to share its success stories and help the firm garner the credit and coverage that it deserves,” said Gordish. “Moreover, the people at Sapphire are first-class from top to bottom, and I’m thrilled to be joining the firm.”
Over the last two years, Sapphire has completed seven exits and was named a top five VC firm based on number of exits. In fall 2016, the firm raised its second fund ($1 billion) to continue to invest in emerging B2B and B2C businesses across a wide variety of industries, along with early-stage venture capital funds in the U.S., Europe and Israel.
