Senior Manager, Marketing

We’re looking for a Senior Manager,  Marketing to play an integral role in the development of marketing programs, content, and corporate communications at Sapphire Ventures.  Sapphire Ventures is a multi-faceted, Palo Alto-based venture capital firm with $2.5 billion of assets under management and more than 50 IPOs and M&A exits since 2011.

With a goal of investing in “companies of consequence,” Sapphire focuses on several technology sectors including:  enterprise software, business services, data / business intelligence, and sports & media. Some current and past investments include:  23andMe, Box, DocuSign, Fitbit, LinkedIn, MuleSoft, Pendo, Segment, Square, Sumo Logic and Tonal.

Marketing is a critical function at Sapphire and is responsible for increasing the profile of the firm, as well as, connecting entrepreneurs with our Portfolio Growth services that help them scale their businesses.  The marketing team is part of Portfolio Growth and works closely with the investment teams to deliver on the firm’s objectives.

The Role:

As part of the marketing team, you will help build and execute content-based programs that increase the awareness of Sapphire and its core businesses.  You will have broad responsibilities ranging from:

  • content strategy
  • messaging and positioning work, and
  • execution of social media, event, and website programs

Throughout these efforts you will create valuable, measurable and repeatable marketing experiences that meet the needs of the firm’s investment teams.

Reporting to Scott Brown, Vice President, Marketing, you will work closely with the rest of the Portfolio Growth team to enhance the visibility of Sapphire and the value-add services Sapphire delivers to portfolio companies.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to, and execute on, Sapphire Ventures’ multi-channel marketing programs by managing communication assets for the firm, including the website, social media, newsletters, and collateral.
  • Partner with the Sapphire’s Event Coordinator to deliver events with new ideas, content and approaches to reach Sapphire’s objectives.
  • Define and track your programs’ impact on Sapphire’s business, and target audiences.
  • Promote Sapphire Ventures in a creative manner while adhering to the guidelines of being a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA)
  • Work alongside the investment and Portfolio Growth teams to grow Sapphire Ventures’ profile among key audiences, including CEOs, venture capital firms, G2000 corporations and other influencers.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, marketing, communications or related field.
  • 5+ years’ professional experience in marketing, preferably at a venture capital / private equity firm OR start-up technology company.
  • Proven experience developing and executing content programs and campaigns.
  • At least basic experience with digital marketing systems (eg WordPress, Google Analytics, etc) and social media channels.
  • Hands-on self-starter who can lead and execute multiple initiatives independently, and as part of a team.
  • Proven project management skills enabling you to balance multiple deadlines to deliver campaign objectives.
  • Strong understanding of content and PR, and the role it can play in an integrated marketing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality written content across a variety of formats (print, web media, presentations).
  • Honest and transparent.
  • Ambitious and a warrior spirit to get things done rather than relying solely on others to get things done.
