Walk into any factory, distribution center or data center and you hear it before you see it. The steady hum of compressors, pumps, chillers and conveyors that never get a day off. Nobody thinks about these machines until one of them stops. Then everyone does. Unplanned downtime now costs the world’s 500 largest companies roughly $1.4 trillion a year, about 11% of their revenue.
In 2024, we led Tractian’s Series C because we believed Igor, the company’s Founder & CEO, had the sharpest answer we had seen to the problem. Our conviction remains unwavering, which is why we are proud to be deepening our partnership with Tractian by leading the Series D.
From Sensors to a Full-Stack Physical AI Platform
When we first invested, Tractian was best known for two things: wireless sensors that listened to rotating equipment for early signs of trouble, and TracOS, a maintenance management system that turned those warnings into work orders. It was a great product with a clear purpose: catch failures before they happen.
Since then, what Tractian built is far bigger. It’s now a full-stack physical AI platform for asset-heavy industries with three core layers:
- Proprietary hardware. A family of Tractian-designed sensors that capture a machine’s mechanical, electrical and operational signals, from vibration and ultrasound to electrical current and process data.
- Asset intelligence. Tractian’s own AI models, including JANUS, its industrial reasoning model, which the team trains on field data from its sensors and on machines it deliberately runs to failure at the Tractian AI Center.
- Software. Applications that put those insights in the hands of everyone from the technician on the floor to the executive overseeing dozens of sites.
The result is a shift from alerts to answers. Legacy tools flag a vibration spike and leave the rest to an expert who may or may not be on shift. Tractian tells you what is wrong, why it’s happening and what to do next.
Proprietary Data that Sharpens Every Model
Most AI today learns from the internet. But no website shows the vibration signature of a gearbox three weeks before it seizes. That data only exists if a sensor has been sitting on the machine, listening, often for years.
That’s exactly what makes Tractian so compelling to us. Its hardware generates proprietary physical data, which then trains its models. From there, every new machine it monitors makes those models sharper. As veteran technicians retire and take decades of know-how with them, Tractian captures that knowledge so the plant keeps it.
Tractian is Trusted Where Downtime Isn’t an Option
Roughly 2,000 plants run on Tractian across food and beverage, pharma, chemicals, automotive, oil and gas, and more. It’s no easy achievement to gain trust across these industries, but Tractian has demonstrated its product works and drives ROI. That’s exactly why customers like McKesson, Whirlpool, Cummins, Unilever, Ingredion and Air Liquide all turn to Tractian.
For Tractian, the playbook is simple. Land in one plant, prove the value, then expand across sites and continents. Even inside its current customer base, Tractian has barely scratched the surface.
With this additional round of funding, the company is pushing further into Europe and markets where failure is not an option, including data centers, defense and the public sector, and energy infrastructure.
The next evolution of the AI boom is physical. Data centers alone will need an estimated $6.7 trillion of investment by 2030, more than $1 trillion of it for power, cooling and electrical infrastructure. Every one of those data centers, every new factory and every grid upgrade depends on heavy machinery running without surprises. Tractian is building the system that keeps them that way.
Strengthening our Commitment to a Dedicated Team of Blue Caps
What we love most about Tractian is how close the team stays to the people it serves. Tractian employees call themselves Blue Caps, a tribute to the maintenance technicians and frontline workers who keep plants running, and a nod to Igor, who grew up watching his father work as a maintenance technician at a paper mill.
Congratulations to Igor and every Blue Cap at Tractian. We can’t wait to see what comes next. 🧢
